Sharapova out of Roger Cup with stomach virus

Maria Sharapova, silver medalist at London Olympics last weekend, withdrew from the Rogers Cup because of a stomach virus.

Reports says that she got the virus the night before the Olympic gold medal match.

Galina Voskoboeva, who lost in the last round of the qualy, will replace her.

“It’s disappointing for our fans and for all of us, but it’s part of the game, unfortunately,” said Eugene Lapierre, the tournament director, in a release. “Maria showed exceptional professionalism making the trip to Montreal, coming on site and try to practice, despite the face she had not been feeling well.”
